Does your voicemail message make you cringe?
It’s often the first impression folks have of you and / or your business.
And first impressions count.
If you’re having trouble getting folks to leave their name (uh) and their number, use these 7 simple voice over techniques. I promise folks won’t go AWOL and you’ll know when they call…
As someone who knows a bit about recording words, I’m sharing some basic voice over recording techniques to help you achieve a killer voicemail message.
They’re easy peasy and you don’t need any fancy-pants equipment.
So grab your phone, pen and paper and let’s get cracking:
1. ✏️ Write it down.
Unless you’re a lyrical gangsta, recording on the fly generally isn’t a good time
2. 📞 Have a call to action.
Don’t leave folks hanging with a vague ‘I’ll get back to you’. Give them an email address. Send them to your website. Get them to send a text
3. 🗣 Practise out loud.
In your head doesn’t count. Make sure your message doesn’t sound wick wick whack. Get to know your words. Now one more time with feeling
4. 🤫 find a quiet spot to record.
You don’t want dogs, babies or angle grinders as your backing track
5. 🐌 speak slowly and clearly.
Slower than you usually would. Your best slow jam please
6. 🎧 have a listen to your masterpiece.
Anything less than the best is a felony. Maybe you should record it again…
7. ⬆️ update when things change.
Re-release your track if your name, biz or other deets change
Try it out and let me know how you go. Leave me a message after the tone 🔊 or in the comments below.
